It was already one of the most intense hockey games of the year.
Then White Spot’s Metrotown location in Burnaby revealed who was sitting in one of their booths.
Prime Minister Mark Carney showed up on Wednesday night wearing a Team Canada hockey jersey to watch the Women’s Hockey gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Canada took on the United States in the final at Milano Cortina, and Carney chose to watch it the most BC way possible, with a Legendary burger at White Spot.

He was not alone.
Burnaby Central MP Wade Chang and New Westminster and Burnaby MP Jake Sawatzky also joined the viewing party at the Kingsway restaurant.
The game itself was a heartbreaker for Canadian fans.
Canada took a 1-0 lead in the second period, but Team USA captain Hilary Knight tied it up with just over two minutes left in regulation.
Megan Keller then scored the overtime winner to give the United States a 2-1 victory and the gold medal.
It was a tough way to lose, but White Spot still celebrated the moment.
“What a game! We are so proud of our Canadian Women’s Hockey team,” the restaurant wrote on Instagram.
“We were honoured to welcome Prime Minister, Mark Carney, Burnaby Central MP, Wade Chang, and New Westminster and Burnaby MP Jake Sawatzky to our Metrotown White Spot to watch the gold medal game.”
They thanked the group for “choosing our spot for this Legendary meal and viewing party.”
The post showed Carney grinning in his red Team Canada jersey with a White Spot burger sitting in front of him.
Win or lose, the image of the country’s leader in a hockey jersey at a White Spot booth feels about as Canadian as it gets.
White Spot has been a BC institution since 1928.
The Metrotown location on Kingsway is one of the chain’s busiest in the Lower Mainland, the kind of neighbourhood spot where anyone might walk in on any given night.
On Wednesday, that “anyone” just happened to be the Prime Minister of Canada.
Canada may have lost the gold medal, but the silver lining was pure BC.
The PM in a hockey jersey, a burger on the table, and a restaurant full of fans cheering together.
That is a White Spot moment if there ever was one.
This comes just after Carney’s appearance in Richmond at Continental Seafood Restaurant for some dim sum and Lunar New Year celebrations.
