The wait is finally over!
Downtown Vancouver is about to be blessed with some famously good udon as Marugame Udon grand opens this Saturday, February 24th.
Located at 589 Beatty Street across from Stadium Skytrain Station, this spot is known for serving up authentic Sanuki-style udon and tempura that’ll have you slurping for joy.
More on the grand opening promo below!
Who is Marugame Udon?
Marugame Udon isn’t just any noodle joint.
Born in Kakogawa City, Japan, in 2000, it’s grown to be the top dog of udon with over 1,000 locations globally.
Our first Marugame experience was in Honolulu, and that had a massive 45 minute line to get in!
Vancouver’s lucky to host Canada’s first outpost, marking the 263rd overseas venture.
Unlike other udon shops, stepping into Marugame Udon and you’re in for a show!
The open kitchen buzzes with energy as noodles are rolled, chopped, and boiled right before your eyes.
You also see various crispy vegetable and seafood tempura being made and available to add to your meal as you walk through the cafeteria-like ordering system.
The new Downtown Vancouver location will feature a whopping 80-seater venue that mixes a casual yet inviting ambiance.
What’s on the Menu?
The menu’s a treasure trove of udon goodness and will match other North American locations.
From the classic Kake Udon (Sanuki-Style Udon served in dashi) to the hearty Nikutama (Sanuki-style Udon served in Umami-rich sauce), every bowl is a journey through Japan’s Kagawa Prefecture.
And of course, you can’t miss out on their wide selection of 8+ different crispy tempuras – ranging from chicken katsu to tamagoyaki to zucchini to sweet potato – and rice bowls like the Chicken Katsu Curry Don.
The food here is meant to be served quickly as everyone goes through the same process of picking the udon and tempuras on the counter.
So those working around the area will be happy to have a new spot to enjoy for lunch!
Launch Day Treat
To celebrate the grand opening of the new Marugame, every bowl comes with a free serving of their signature tempura.
It’s a delicious way to say “hello” and a thank you for joining the celebration!
And as the Downtown location launches, we’ve already been tipped that there’s already another Metro Vancouver location in the works.
