The viral matcha pop-up that took Vancouver by storm last summer has finally made its official comeback.
Back in April, we reported that Matcha Corner, the hit pop-up formerly tucked inside Shun Fa Noodle House, was making a return in a more permanent way.
And now, after months of anticipation, they’ve softly opened inside a brand-new unit on Kingsway as of June 28th.
But there’s a twist.
Instead of having a space solo, Matcha Corner now shares its home with a new Chinese dessert spot called 66 Dessert.
The two brands operate side by side from the same counter, with Matcha Corner using a section of the counter to fulfill its drink orders.
This new dessert house, also run by the Shun Fa family, creates a seamless fusion of Chinese dessert soups and matcha beverages under one roof.
The Matcha Corner’s new drink menu is bigger and bolder than ever.
Here, they use ceremonial grade matcha from Kyoto and 5 grams of matcha in every drink.
Everything is iced for now, and there’s lots of customizations available.
You can choose your sugar level, pick from regular, oat, soy, or almond milk, and load up on extras like crystal pearls, cream tops, or even an extra matcha shot.
Some of their more colourful offerings include taro milk matcha, pistachio matcha, strawberry crème matcha, and a popular ice cream matcha latte -where you get to choose from ube, vanilla, or sesame scoops floating on top.
And if you’re stopping by for a drink, you can also grab something from the 66 Dessert menu, like mango pudding, tofu pudding, or herbal jelly.
Both brands share a bright, softly lit space with light wood paneling, neutral furniture, and plenty of seating for dine-in customers.
It’s modern, minimalist, and surprisingly roomy.
Aside from drinks, we spotted a small retail section that sells Matcha Corner’s branded ceremonial matcha powder, matcha tools like chasen, and a cute lineup of glass straws and accessories.
But don’t expect your drink in a flash.
Like before, the pace is on the slow side.
Christine, the face behind Matcha Corner, was still the main person whisking and prepping every drink when we visited.
She might have some occasional help, but most drinks still take about 15 to 20 minutes, especially when the line builds.
We got the new ice cream matcha latte with vanilla ice cream, and it was exactly the dreamy matcha float we were hoping for.
Matcha Corner now joins other new food openings in Vancouver like La Chuoi Cuisine, Bento Cafe, and Nin Nin Ramen.
