It looks like another beloved Vancouver food spot could soon be changing hands.

Longtime Mexican restaurant La Casita, a staple in Gastown for over two decades, has been spotted listed for sale.

According to online listings, the asking price is $499,800 for the full restaurant business, including the liquor license, commercial kitchen, and 3000 sq. ft of prime real estate on a busy corner in the historic district.

La Casita’s story stretches back much further than its Gastown address.

According to its website, the original location was opened in 1990 in Powell River by the current owner’s mother, serving handmade Mexican food in a cozy coastal setting.

The reins were passed down in 1995, and by 2004, the family brought the concept to Vancouver with the opening of La Casita Gastown.

Despite the shift to a bigger city and new challenges, the restaurant managed to stay strong through the years thanks to loyal customers.

Over the years, it built a reputation for its flavour-packed tacos, satisfying tortilla soup, and generous portion sizes.

Guests regularly praised its warm and relaxed Latin American atmosphere, often calling it one of the closest tastes of Mexico you could find in the city.

The space was just as accommodating as the food, with two floors of seating and a patio, all licensed for 126 guests.

According to the current sale listing, La Casita’s existing lease has just under three years remaining, with an option to renew for another five.

There is no saying what’s exactly going to happen next to La Casita, but this could be a sad goodbye to the longstanding spot.
