Metro Vancouver’s hot pot obsession isn’t slowing down anytime soon and now there’s a new player heating things up on Kingsway.
Hot Spot Buffet has officially opened, taking over the former Sumo Grill unit near Kingsway and 41st.
While Sumo Grill quietly shut its doors earlier this spring, Hot Spot Buffet has swooped in with a more all-inclusive concept: AYCE Hot Pot and BBQ.
That’s right, no self-weighing here.

Instead, you pay a flat price and get access to the self-serve ingredients bar featuring a wide selection of meats, seafood, veggies, tofu, noodles, and more.
At Hot Spot Buffet, there’s two main menus:
- Classic Grill or Hot Pot Set – $39.99
- Premium Grill or Hot Pot Set – $53.99
And if you can’t decide between BBQ or hot pot (honestly, who can?), you can do both for just $3 extra per person.
The base price also covers: Self-serve fridge wall, appetizer & dessert bar, sauce bar, drink station, and choice of hot pot broth.
And if that is not enough for you, there’s also an assortment of hot dishes, cold appetizers, and dim sum available too.
However, specialty meats and premium seafood like prawns and scallops are only available if you go with the premium set, but the variety here is likely already enough to keep your hands busy and your belly full.
Weekday warriors, take note: Monday to Thursday lunch runs at just $24.99, and late-night diners get 10% off.
As for the vibe, if you ever dined at Sumo Grill, the sleek interior will look familiar.
The modern, wood-accented space hasn’t changed much. Although some may miss the giant sumo mascot by the door before.
So if you’ve been craving a more hands-on AYCE experience, this might be your next Friday night dinner mission.
