New Casual Japanese Steakhouse With Unlimited Curry & Miso Soup Grand Opens In Richmond [W/ PROMO]

Richmond’s food scene is ever-changing, with new spots constantly popping up to fill empty units.

The latest addition?

Pound Steak, a casual Japanese steakhouse taking over the former Kizami restaurant space.

Grand Opening Promotion:
Regular size Gyu Don for $12.95 ($16.95 reg) from Sept 1 – 7 only.

If you’re a fan of hearty, flavourful Japanese comfort food, this new spot is worth checking out.

The owner’s inspiration for Pound Steak came from his trips to Japan, where he fell in love with the casual Japanese family restaurants like Gusto offering curry and Hamburg steaks.

Pound Steak owner explained, “Hamburg steak is actually a very local dish in Japan, there are many casual steakhouses that serve it.”

Alongside Hamburg steak, the menu features other Japanese favs like gyudon, curry, and udon, providing a well-rounded dining experience.

Hamburg Steak

The name “Pound Steak” reflects their concept of letting customers choose the size of their steak, allowing for a customizable and budget-friendly meal.

Pound Steak’s menu offers a variety of steaks, including Hamburg steak, signature flat iron steak, and ribeye, all served with a small green salad and potatoes.

Their signature Hamburg steak is a juicy mix of beef and pork, while their flat iron steak, made from AAA grade Canadian beef, offers a tender, flavourful alternative to pricier cuts like tenderloin.

Ribeye Steak

To keep the casual Japanese restaurant vibe alive, they also offer authentic Japanese ramune bottles and a delightful parfait for dessert.

Parfait

He’s brought that same cozy, authentic feel to Richmond, complete with an old-school Japanese ambiance.

As you dine, you’ll hear 80’s and 90’s Japanese music playing in the background, and the decor features vintage items (like Totoro, Hello Kitty, Godzilla, etc) brought over from Japan, creating a warm, homey atmosphere.

One of the standout features of Pound Steak is the DIY station tucked in the corner of the restaurant.

Here, you’ll find a rice cooker and pots of curry and miso soup, along with toppings like tofu skin, corn, and seaweed.

Customers who order an entrée (like from the steak, curry, or udon section) can help themselves to as much as they like, making it a popular spot during our visit.

Japanese Style Sausage

The DIY station adds an interactive element to the meal, making the experience feel even more personal and satisfying.

After a busy soft opening, Pound Steak is officially grand opening from September 1st to 7th with a special promotion on their Gyudon.

Gyu Don

During this period, you can enjoy a regular-sized Gyudon bowl for just $12.95, down from the usual $16.95.
