Listen up Yaletown, there’s something new coming your way!

After 9 months of delay (thanks to the city), Oshi Nori, the eagerly anticipated Japanese hand roll spot in Yaletown, is set to soft open its doors next week.

We got a sneak peek of the space before they started their internal tests.

Owner Paulo Lyra shared with Noms Magazine that the grand opening is slated for April 22nd or 23rd.

Oshi Nori, under the visionary helm of Brazilian entrepreneur Paulo Lyra, the mastermind behind several food businesses in Vancouver and North Vancouver such as CrafflesSharkys Chophouse & EateryBraz Foods, and the vegan snack brand Omg It’s Vegan.

Oshi Nori would be his first take on Japanese cuisine and on Japanese hand rolls – which have been locally dominated by Hello Nori.

Paulo shared that Oshi Nori will go down the authentic route in both food and experience.

Paulo has also tapped two experienced Japanese chefs to ensure the quality and food are tip-top shape.

He shared that one came from Michelin Recommended Sushi Hil and another that has owned their own Japanese restaurant for over a decade.

The dining space at Oshi Nori has an intimate atmosphere that you’d expect from an omakase joint.

Accommodating 25 guests, the restaurant features a U-shaped bar that will give you front-row seats to watch the chefs as they craft your hand rolls with precision and artistry.

One side of the room features a large colourful mural of the iconic yin and yang koi fish.

Oshi Nori’s menu will feature a wide selection of hand rolls and Oshi rolls (versions of the hand rolls that aren’t fully wrapped).

This includes locally and internationally sourced ingredients such as uni (sea urchin), bluefin chu-toro (medium fatty tuna), akami (lean tuna), wagyu beef, and eel.

Sashimi, Aburi Salmon Oshi Sushi, and Donburi rice bowls will also be available.

Complementing the food menu, Oshi Nori will offer an array of Japanese spirits ranging from sake to whiskey to cocktails.

While the indoor seating area is set for a cozy ambiance, plans for an outdoor patio have been confirmed, slated for introduction at a later date.

Oshi Nori will be joining other highly rated Japanese restaurants like Minami and Okeya Kyujiro in the Yaletown area.
