Vancouver is famous for its sushi and rain.
But when it comes to clam chowder, our cousins down south in Seattle & San Francisco have always had the upper hand.
Thatโs about to changeโat least for two weekendsโthanks to a brand new pop-up called Jackโs Chowder.
It’s brought to you by the lovely owners behind Shameless Buns, Matt and Corvette.
Known for their fun, cheeky takes on Filipino cuisine, the Shameless Buns duo is back with a new project thatโs aiming to put Vancouver on the clam chowder map.
The story behind Jackโs Chowder is one of love and nostalgia – inspired by road trips down the coast and visits to the shakiest of chowder shacks.

โWeโve often wondered why Vancouver doesnโt really have a New England Clam Chowder spot, so we thought, why not create one? Jackโs Chowder pays homage to those seaside afternoonsโฆwith the lingering aroma of ocean funk and a good bowl of clam chowder.โ
Jackโs Chowder promises all the essentials: creamy New England-style clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl, topped with bacon from Crack On food truck, and drizzled with lobster oil for an extra touch of luxury.
Matt and Corvette are pulling out all the stops, including importing oyster crackers from the States.
The pop-up will also feature a grown-up take on the classic Filet-O-Fish sandwich, Dill Pickle Popcorn Shrimp, Salt & Vinegar Fries, and their house-made pickles with tangy tartar sauce.
You can find the pop-up running at the Shameless Buns shop on Fraser Street for just two weekendsโSeptember 6-8 and September 13-15.
If the event goes well, thereโs a chance that Jackโs Chowder could become a more permanent fixture, bringing some serious clam chowder energy to Vancouverโs food scene.
