New Evening Snack Bar Soft Opens in Gastown With 20 Items Under $20 Menu

Last updated:

Remember the good ol’ days when you could go out, grab a light snack, and enjoy a drink without emptying your wallet?

Seems nearly IMPOSSIBLE these days in Vancouver, right?

Well, a new evening snack bar in Gastown is aiming to bring those darn good times back!

Breeze Bar just soft opened on November 13th, and it’s all about combining the “trashy and classy”.

The new snack bar is created by Josh Ochotorena (prev. Chef de Cuisine at Pourhouse) and Ryan Tanner (prev. from PiDGiN).

The menu features 20 items priced under $20 and ofcourse – a curated list of wine and cocktails.

The menu is arranged in a tiered system with some items starting as low as $5, going up to a max of $20—a refreshing change for an evening out in Vancouver.

From Wednesdays to Saturdays, Breeze Bar will be taking over Gastown’s Twisted Fork from 6 PM to midnight, turning the space into a cozy evening snack bar.

(Yes, Twisted Fork is still operating for brunch)

According to Josh, who recently appeared on an episode of Chefs Favourite, Breeze Bar’s concept is all about reclaiming “the conception of cheap eats, keeping it trashy but classy as well.”

Think high-low menu combinations like hot dogs and caviar or popcorn and scallops.

The sausage rolls, for example, strike the perfect balance between buttery pastry and flavourful stuffing, served alongside Dijonaise™—a guilty pleasure you’ll find yourself craving the next day.

Another standout is the wagyu beef hot dogs topped with miso mustard, which Josh says is one of his favourites.

The buns for this item are sourced from Tall Shadow Bakery on Hastings, ensuring that the local aspect is well incorporated throughout the menu.

Other menu highlights include:

  • Double Double ($16): Proper bubbles served with 2g of caviar, for those who want a little indulgence.
  • Popcorn ($3): Flavour experience seasoning that makes it more than your typical movie snack.
  • Chips & Caviar ($20): House-made chips served with crème fraîche and 4g of caviar.
  • Prawns ($15): Juicy prawns in rich XO butter with a toasted baguette, bringing a comforting yet upscale twist.
  • Bone Marrow ($20): Served with a sprinkle of sea salt and warm toast, this dish is perfect for those looking to dive into something rich and savory.

With the vibe of Breeze Bar focusing on approachable prices, good bites, and great drinks, it’s looking to bring something much-needed back to the Gastown food scene.

If you’ve been missing a spot that offers some late-night fun without the hefty bill, this just might be your new go-to.
