New Japanese Hand Roll Stall Opening in Vancouver’s West End

A fresh face is making its way into Downtown Vancouverโ€™s food scene, and itโ€™s setting up inside one of the cityโ€™s most curious spots.

After Grab n Go quietly shut down four of its locations, many wondered what would move into the empty units.

Well, now we know!

At the Robson Public Marketโ€™s second floor, Sashimi Box, a new Japanese hand roll spot is moving in.

We spotted signage at the entrance of the market, that teases a BOGO deal on all hand rolls, making it hard to resist dropping by.

But when we went upstairs on a Saturday, the place was closed.

At the time of publishing, no official social media pages or online presence for Sashimi Box could be found, suggesting the shop is still gearing up for a proper launch.

Their menu covers a range of options from classics like tuna, salmon, and unagi to elevated choices such as bluefin toro, salmon roe, and unagi tamago.

Prices run between eight to twenty dollars depending on the filling, giving plenty of choice for both casual snacking and a more indulgent sushi fix.

Robson Public Market itself is a bit of a mystery these days.

It has become quieter with many storefronts sitting vacant.

The building feels like itโ€™s waiting for redevelopment, which makes Sashimi Boxโ€™s arrival an interesting move.

For now, it feels like a hidden find, tucked away in a mall most Vancouverites tend to forget.

Sashimi Box joins a wave of new openings hitting the city, alongside the much-anticipated Chun Fun How on Kingsway, SYU in Kitsilano, and Cha Tra Mueโ€™s arrival.
