Richmond locals love their sushi.
But when it comes to inari, there haven’t been many options – until now.
Say hello to Okome, the latest spot in town, bringing a fresh twist to Japanese flavours.
This new venture is the brainchild of Carmen Chan, who previously found online success with Sakai on Uber Eats.
Carmen, a Richmond local and UBC grad, draws her inspiration from many trips to Japan.
She and her partners wanted to bring a fun and modern take on Japanese cuisine to their hometown.
With Okome they are introducing Richmond to the delightful “pocket sushi” – Inari.
Okome offers a variety of Japanese dishes including Inari, Sashimi, Donburi, Oshi Sushi, Udon, and Signature Poke Bowls.
Their signature items, the Shoyu Butter Inari Trio, Aburi Inari Trio, and premium Ikura, pair perfectly with the Icy Mango Coco Jasmine Bobo drink.
Eden Ding, a partial owner of Okome, highlights the unique qualities of Inari sushi: “Inari sushi is a type of sushi presented different, with the rice tucked inside sweet and salty deep-fried tofu pockets. Its handheld snack-like quality makes it fun to eat and can be customized with many different filling flavours.”
Located near Steveston, Okome benefits from access to fresh seafood and the charm of a quaint fishing village.
Interior-wise, Okome is inspired by Japanese onsens (hot springs), featuring oak wood tones, minimalist aesthetics, and a modern vibe.
With 8 table seats and 6 bar stools, the space is cozy and welcoming.
For first-time visitors, Okome promises a fun and creative dining experience.
Eden shared with Noms Magazine, “We want our customers to have fun! Richmond is no foreigner to great Japanese food. We want to inspire others to be creative as we’ve tried with the same classical ingredients one might find in sushi rolls. We hope the space feels cozy and welcoming and for our customers to leave belly full, spirits high!”
Share this exciting new spot with your friends and be among the first to experience Okome!
