It looks like there’s a new spot that quietly opened on Kingsway!

Spotted by a Noms Mag community member, 88 Town is a Korean Chinese restaurant that soft opened on June 21 in Burnaby.

It takes over the former On On Wonton House unit.

If that name sounds familiar, it should.

On On had been a Kingsway staple for over 60 years before closing in January, and now the legacy space has been reborn with a whole new flavour.

Our community member captured their menu and it looks packed with options.

Think big plates of tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), spicy seafood jjambbong, jajangmyeon noodles drenched in black bean sauce, fried rice, and gan jjajang.

They also have large combo-style family sets and multi-course meal options for groups, plus daily $19 lunch specials and classic hot pots like kimchi tofu and bulgogi jeongol.

As for the name, it’s unclear if there’s a connection to 88 Noodle House just a few blocks down.

But given that 8 is a lucky number in many Asian cultures, seeing multiple businesses with 8s in their name isn’t all that surprising.

Currently, there is no website or social media profile for the restaurant.

The arrival of 88 Town marks another shift in Burnaby’s ever-changing food landscape.

It comes as several other local spots have either closed or are preparing to open.

SOJU, Sushi Bay, and S&W Pepper House have recently shuttered, while The Meat Up is currently gearing up for launch.
