New Korean Supermarket Spotted Opening In Burnaby

It looks like Burnaby isn’t content with letting Richmond hog all the new Asian supermarkets!

One of our community members (@celimamaskitchen) recently spotted signs for Hannam Supermarket opening up a new location in Burnaby.

They’ll be taking over the former Craftsman Collision shop on Imperial and MacPherson.

Hannam Supermarket, established back in 1998, was the first large-scale Korean mart in Western Canada.

It brought a distinct Korean flair to North Road Mall, and its arrival sparked what became Burnaby’s K-town.

Their flagship store, along with other locations, has played a crucial role in fostering over 200 Korean businesses in the area, making it more than just a place for groceries.

Initially, we thought this new location might be a smaller concept due to the size of the lot.

Considering that Hannam opened an express version in Yaletown earlier this year, it made sense to expect something similar here.

The Hannam Supermarket team told Noms Magazine that this new Burnaby spot will not be an express concept.

That being said, it is unlikely it will be the full-scale supermarket you’re familiar with due to the size of the lot.

They also shared that it is slated to open this winter.

This is exciting news for residents around the Royal Oak area.

With Hannam Supermarket soon setting up shop, locals will have even more options for Korean groceries—from pantry essentials to fresh produce and prepared foods.
