It looks like the matcha craze isn’t stopping as Vancouverโs matcha scene is getting a new player this summer!
And it’s one thatโs set to help you find the matcha that suits YOU!
Emeri, a Vancouver-based tea brand that has done pop-ups at Japan Market and The Shipyards, is launching its first semi-permanent location on Saturday, July 19th.
For the next three months, the Emeri will operate a weekend-only pop-up cafe inside Two Peas in a Pod in South Granville, just across from where cofounders Josephine Au and Justin once lived.
The kicker is that it will be rotating matcha bar.
More on that later.
Emeri started as an online shop, but quickly built a loyal following across Metro Vancouver thanks to its commitment to high-quality tea made with matcha or hojicha sourced directly from small, family-run farms in Japan.
โWeโve sampled hundreds of teas and are committed to only serving what we genuinely love and believe in,โ Josephine told Noms Magazine.
Their philosophy is rooted in the idea that tea should be personal – thereโs no one-size-fits-all approach.
โThatโs why we came up with our tagline: Find Your Matchaโข,โ she explained.
โItโs about helping people discover the matcha or hojicha thatโs just right for them.โ
This is where the rotating matcha bar comes in.
Emeri will be offering different matcha powders that rotate throughout summer, each varying in region, cultivar, and taste.
That means the matcha powder available in the first week may be different in the second week, and so on.
This allows customers to try different powders that may be more bold, floral, or umami.
Josephine says it is similar to a rotating tap at a brewery.
They’ll be posting the menu on their Instagram each week for guests to see beforehand.
Inside the 1,000 sq ft space, guests will be invited up to the tea bar to watch as their drinks are hand-whisked and poured.
Indoors, thereโs seating for about 16 people, with an outdoor patio space for another 8 when the sunโs out.
To celebrate the opening, the first 30 guests on July 19 will receive a free Holy Mochi donut with their drink purchase.
Emeri will also be featuring goods from BAK’D Cookies, Motomura Wares, and Holy Mochi, all carefully chosen not just for quality, but for the stories and values behind them.
โWe donโt just wholesale these itemsโwe love sharing the stories behind the brands,โ Josephine shared.
โAfter all, who better to support small businesses than other small businesses?โ
All drinks will be made with 5g of matcha or hojicha, and alternative milks are included at no extra cost.
The pop up will be open from 10AM to 4PM every weekend until mid October.
