It looks like Kingsway just got a new spot for Vietnamese food.
Viet Street Food Cafe has quietly opened its doors on the corner of Kingsway and East 33rd, taking over the former Nhuy Cafe space.
We spotted their grand opening sign while driving down Kingsway and they’re doing a 15% off promotion on their entire menu running until the end of October.
Inside, much of the old decor remains intact.
The space has a simple, no-frills charm with a few floral wall decals and small touches of home, creating that familiar family-run vibe.
When we visited (anonymously as usual), we were warmly greeted by the husband-and-wife duo behind the new spot.
According to the wife, this is their very first food business and they couldn’t be more excited to share their dishes.
The menu is impressively large for such a cozy restaurant, offering a wide range of Vietnamese comfort food.
You’ll find papaya salads, spring rolls, vermicelli bowls, sizzling skillets, sticky rice dishes, noodle soups, and an entire lineup of banh mi options — all at prices that feel like a throwback to pre-pandemic Vancouver.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen $6.99 banh mi and $4.50 iced Vietnamese coffee in the city.
We asked the owners for a couple of recommendations, and they suggested their signatures.
One was the Banh mi chao Bo ne, a sizzling beef skillet served with rare beef, pate, sausage, egg, and a side of baguette for dipping.
And the Banh Hoi Thap Cam platter, which comes with grilled pork in betel leaf, pork patty, and spring rolls alongside fresh greens and vermicelli.
Both were comforting, hearty, and packed with flavour.
With its grand opening promotion going on until the end of the month, it makes for a good opportunity to check out this new spot out!
Viet Street Food Cafe now joins other recently opened Vancouver food spots like Belli Pizza, Nizu Café, and Happy Sushi.
