New Yunnan-Guizhou Hot Pot Restaurant To Open in Richmond

It looks like we finally know what’s taking over the former Kumo Sukiyaki space on Alexandra Road!

New signage has gone up for Stone & Flow Asian Bistro, a Yunnan-Guizhou–inspired restaurant.

It will specialize in sour soup beef and fish hot pot.

For those unfamiliar, Guizhou cuisine (or Qian cuisine) is known for its bold balance of sour and spicy flavours.

According to the signage, the restaurant will offer an authentic Guizhou Zui Miaodong Kaili Sour Soup Beef Fish Hot Pot, a dish named after the city of Kaili in China’s Guizhou province.

Kaili City, is famous for its focus on longevity and traditional food practices.

Locals believe that sour dishes, like the signature Kaili-style soup, play a role in promoting good health.

The region’s signature sour soup dishes are particularly loved across China, often prepared with ingredients like carp or catfish, tomatoes, and a vibrant red sour broth that’s equal parts tangy, spicy, and refreshing.

Stone & Flow’s exterior signage also features imagery of the traditional clay pot hot pot used in Guizhou cooking, alongside scenic backdrops of the province’s mountain villages.

The restaurant’s tagline describes it as “Creative Yunnan-Guizhou Oriental Cuisine,” suggesting a blend of traditional regional dishes with modern presentation.

This new addition replaces Kumo Sukiyaki’s second outpost, which operated in the same space for just eight months before closing earlier this fall.

Kumo’s original Anderson Road location remains open.

Stone & Flow Asian Bistro now joins the growing list of upcoming new Richmond food spots like Pocorit, Lucky Lily, and Pika Tea.
