In the cozy, tree-lined streets of Kitsilano, a new cafe bakery is quietly brewing for coffee lovers and environmental advocates alike!
We spotted NOMAD Coffee, a name already known by North Vancouver locals, is setting its sights on Kitsilano for its second home.
From North Vancouver to Kitsilano
NOMAD Coffee’s roots trace back to the vision of Annette Kim, who has a deep passion for coffee and sustainability.
Her journey began in 2015 with Bean VGH at Vancouver General Hospital and evolved with the opening of Bean-on-5th in Lower Lonsdale in 2019.
These locations were more than just coffee shops; they were the starting ground for Annette’s sustainability movement.
Fast forward to May 2022, NOMAD Coffee opened its doors in North Vancouver, as the first café to eliminate single-use cups entirely.
The beautiful café offers a curated selection of coffees, including their signature Cloud Espresso, and an in-house bakery featuring a mix of classic and Asian-inspired treats like Seoul Gochujang spicy cookies.
Sustainability at Its Core
At Nomad, sustainability is not an option; it’s a way of life.
Customers are urged to bring their own cups or choose from reusable options available for purchase or rent.
This initiative has already kept 60,000 cups out of landfills as of October 2023, a figure that’s only set to rise with the Kitsilano opening.
A New Home in Kitsilano
The new Kitsilano location, taking over a former convenience store, looks to extend NOMAD Coffee’s mission to “Challenge Today and Change Tomorrow.”
While details about the Kitsilano location are still brewing, the NOMAD team did tell Noms Magazine they are looking to open sometime in 2024.
The new outpost is expected to mirror the North Vancouver location’s commitment to the Bring Your Own Cup (BYOC) model and environmental mission.
