There’s big news brewing in North Vancouver.

The City of North Vancouver has confirmed that NOMAD Espresso Bar & Bakery will be the official cafe operator at the brand-new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre, set to open in 2026.

The North Van cafe will bring its signature sustainability-driven concept to the new community hub, offering a warm spot for locals to meet, recharge, or grab a post-workout espresso.

Behind NOMAD is Annette Kim, a longtime advocate for sustainable cafe culture.

Her coffee journey began in 2015 with “Bean VGH” at Vancouver General Hospital, followed by “Bean-on-5th” in Lower Lonsdale in 2019.

At Bean-on-5th, Kim introduced eco-initiatives that helped reduce landfill waste by 95% in just three years.

Her efforts earned her the Living City Award from the City of North Vancouver in 2021 for environmental sustainability.

NOMAD is her third and most ambitious project yet.

The cafe represents Kim’s mission to change how people experience coffee by removing single-use cups entirely.

Every drink is served in a reusable cup.

Customers can bring their own or borrow a 3D-printed clay cup made from natural ingredients like clay, water, and salt.

Since opening, Nomad has prevented more than 193,000 disposable cups from ending up in landfills.

On the menu, expect specialty coffees, pour-overs, and inventive drinks like the Yuzu Espresso Tonic and Mango Hojicha Latte, along with house-made sandwiches and pastries.

Favorites include the Bulgogi Brioche, Kimchi Grilled Cheese, and freshly baked croissants.

The new Harry Jerome location will sit inside the centre’s atrium and aims to blend seamlessly into the space’s community-focused design.

It’s part of Kim’s broader vision to support North Vancouver’s 100-Year Sustainability Plan and inspire a new generation of mindful coffee drinkers.
