Longtime Northwestern Chinese Noodle Shop To Open New Vancouver Concept

Back in 2023, we reported that the beloved Taiwanese restaurant Corner 23 would be shutting down, with its building destined for redevelopment.

Corner 23 had been a staple on Cambie Street since before 2009, delighting locals with its OG Taiwanese flavours.

It was a go-to spot for hearty and affordable comfort food.

But the anticipated changes didn’t quite go as planned.

Instead of redevelopment, the building was eventually put back on the market for lease this past summer—and now we know who’s taken over the space: Old Xian’s Food.

The story of Old Xian’s Food begins more than eight years ago at Richmond’s Continental Shopping Centre.

It was launched by a passionate chef, inspired by her love for fine foods and a deep-rooted belief in the Chinese motto “People are food-based.”

Over time, it became a popular spot not just among the local Chinese community, but also with food lovers from all walks of life.

After gaining traction in Richmond, Old Xian’s expanded to Vancouver on Kingsway, then to Burnaby’s Crystal Mall, and more recently to Coquitlam in 2023.

The upcoming Cambie location marks another chapter for this well-loved brand.

Known for its variety of Northwest Chinese flavours, Old Xian’s menu offers everything from wheat snacks to the famous Rou Jia Mo (Chinese hamburger) and pork & leek dumplings.

But the real star is their hand-pulled Biang Biang noodles—these wide, long, thick noodles, often described as “belt-like,” are the stuff of legend.

This new location will be more than just a restaurant; Old Xian’s Food is looking to create a unique fusion of convenience store and dining experience.

It is being dubbed the Old Xian’s Food Noodle & Mart.

The Old Xian’s team has recently been sharing renovation progress and challenges on their Instagram, giving followers an inside look at the transformation.

On one side, you’ll will find grab-and-go food options and a microwave for quick bites, while the other side will feature a cozy dine-in area.

The new logo, featuring a chef from Xian, signals the brand’s continued dedication to bringing authentic flavours to Vancouver.

Though no opening date has been announced yet, Old Xian’s Food is sure to bring a new kind of buzz to Cambie, serving up their signature noodles and snacks while also adding a market-style twist.
