Vancouverites who love their tofu pudding, you’ll love this news!

That’s because Yuan Soy Food, a new dessert spot dedicated to traditional Chinese soy-based treats, is opening on May 16th on the ground level of First Avenue Marketplace (where the T&T Supermarket is).

Back in November 2024, a Noms Mag community member (@dinevancity) first spotted the initial paper signs of the dessert spot taking over the previous Little Bubble Tea House unit.

There wasn’t much to go on at the time.

No socials, no online crumbs, just a name.

But earlier this year, the mystery began to unravel when the shop finally launched its Instagram presence.

We reached out to learn more, and what we found made us even more excited.

Yuan Soy Food told Noms Magazine that they are the sister location of Yan’s Soy Foods, a longtime favourite in Markham, Ontario, that’s been serving the Greater Toronto Area since 1997.

If you hop onto the reviews (rated 4.7 stars) for Yan’s Soy Food, you’ll find dozens of people deeming the spot the best tofu fa in Toronto.

“After nearly three decades of sharing their soy-based desserts with families in the GTA, the team is excited to bring that same heart and heritage to the West Coast,” they shared with Noms Magazine.

Yuan Soy Food is a family-run business rooted in tradition, focusing on tofu fa (豆腐花) – silky-smooth tofu pudding, served warm or chilled.

The ingredients are simple, clean, and made fresh daily with no preservatives.

You’ll also find house-made soy drinks in classic, almond, coconut, and chocolate flavours.

We walked by the storefront this week and things are looking close to being ready.

A bright yellow sandwich board out front confirms the opening date: May 16, 2025.

The menu (which we peeped through the window) lists soy puddings starting at $3.50 for classic, and $4.50 for flavours like almond, ginger, coconut, chocolate, and grass jelly.

Soy milk drinks are also available by the cup or in family-sized bottles, ranging from $2.49 to $17 depending on the size and flavour.

Inside, the space is minimalist but homey, with clean white counters, light wood accents, and a view of the menu boards overhead.

For many Asians, you likely grew up eating tofu fa.

It’s nostalgic, comforting, and delicious.

And there are definitely a few OG spots in the Metro Vancouver area that do serve it.

But considering the high reviews and prestige of its Ontario location, we’re excited to try what Yuan has to offer!

Let us know if you’ll be stopping by on opening day!
