After capturing hearts with its adorable and unique concept, Chew Chew — North America’s first self-serve pet hot pot and poke bar — has announced that it will sadly soon close its doors.

Located in Steveston, the Richmond-based spot first opened this August, offering a one-of-a-kind dining experience where pets could “sniff, choose, and dine” on custom-made raw meals.

Created by Fairchild TV host Suiki Zhang and Exit Canada owner Justin Tang, Chew Chew quickly went viral for its playful approach to pet dining and its mission to create joyful, sensory-based meals for furry friends.

Unfortunately, after just a few months, the team shared on Instagram that they have made the difficult decision to close.

In their heartfelt post, they described Chew Chew as a “labour of love — one built on heart, risk, and belief,” adding that while it wasn’t easy to sustain, they are proud to have sparked conversations and inspired creativity.

They also shared that their final day of service will be October 26, thanking guests for every tail wag, smile, and memory made along the way.

Since the announcement, fans and pet owners have flooded the comments with emotional messages, thanking the team for creating such a magical experience for their dogs.

Chew Chew’s closure marks the end of one of Metro Vancouver’s most unique food stories this year.

While the team hinted at wrapping up this chapter, they also said they are open to discussing opportunities with anyone passionate about carrying the concept forward.

For now, locals still have until October 26 to visit Chew Chew for one last experience.
