Another day, another food shuffle at Richmond’s busiest plaza.
Union Square Shopping Centre has been on a roll the past year when it comes to openings, closings, and surprise switch-ups.
And the latest one involves a familiar name.
We spotted a closure notice taped to the door of Pho 37’s original & smaller Union Square unit – the one that returned last year after B House dipped out after just eight months.
Yup, that location.
If you’re trying to follow the timeline, here’s a quick refresher:
Pho 37 originally opened in Unit #101 back in 2018 and built a loyal following with bowls of steaming beef noodle soup and that signature Tuan’s Special.
In 2023, they leveled up by moving into the much larger unit a few steps away to handle bigger crowds.
Then came the twist: B House Restaurant took over the old space, tried to do brunch with Far-East flair, and quietly vanished less than a year later.
In a surprise move, Pho 37 popped back into their old unit like they never left.
So they had two restaurants operating at Union Square.
But this time around?
The vibes weren’t the same.
Even with the return of the pho and OG signage, the reopened location didn’t quite get the same buzz.
And now, it’s officially done.
According to the notice posted on the door, March 17 was its final day at that location.
But they’re still serving up bowls just a short walk away at their larger Union Square spot.
And if you’re not near Union Square, Pho 37 still has locations across the city, including Ironwood Plaza and downtown’s West End.
Union Square definitely has had the most action in terms of turnover.
Other new developments in the plaza include the opening of Lucky J and Sweet7, the closure of Meet Fresh, and incoming food spots like Blooming Spice Fish House, Molly Tea and Xin Snacks.
