It’s official!

Pokey Okey is making a comeback in Richmond and this time with backup.

After shutting down their Richmond Anderson location in February, the beloved local poke shop is returning in a new food hall opening directly across from CF Richmond Centre.

Pokey Okey first launched in Richmond in 2018, founded by longtime friends Victor and Jonathan, the brand quickly became a local favourite for customizable poke bowls and in-house creations like the Red Bowl and Green Bowl.

Their last Richmond signoff came with a promise to return and now they’re delivering on that.

But that’s not all.

Joining them is their sister brand Oishinoya, a Japanese gyudon concept that originally launched as a delivery-only brand back in 2023 and a new Japanese cafe called Nonbiri.

According to the Pokey Okey team, this will be a new food hall concept with the 3 brands.

Noms Mag community member (@eatingwithvee) first spotted signage for the Oishinoya going up. The following day, we noticed that Pokey Okey and Nonbiri signage was put up next to it.

Oishinoya is Pokey Okey’s savoury spin-off, focused on comforting Japanese beef rice bowls.

If you’ve never had gyudon, imagine tender braised beef simmered in a sweet-savory sauce over hot rice.

It’s simple, soul-warming, and satisfying. Oishinoya’s take plays with bold flavours and unique toppings:

  • The Mentaiko Gyudon – finished with creamy mentaiko sauce and torched to perfection
  • The Negi Gyudon – topped with scallions, hot spring egg, and juicy beef
  • The Kimchi Gyudon – spicy, funky, and packed with umami-rich beef

Meanwhile, Nonbiri will be offering coffee, matcha, parfaits and paninis according to the signage.

The Pokey Okey team told Noms Magazine that the new Richmond outpost will be primarily dine-in with the food hall concept.

There’s no confirmed opening date just yet, but the team shared with that they expect to open sometime later this year.

Pokey Okey will be joining a growing list of upcoming new food spots in Richmond, including Cotti Coffee, Hong Phat, the return of Meet Fresh, and the anticipated Yang’s Dumpling.
