Robson Street is known as Vancouver’s iconic shopping destination.
But with that recognition comes a hefty hefty price tag.
Big-name businesses typically can afford these premium rents, but it’s always impressive to see an independent small business take a chance here.
That’s why it was such a bold move when Little Cafe opened its doors on Robson in 2022.
Little Cafe quickly gained a following after becoming one of the first in Vancouver to launch the viral New York supreme croissants.
The trendy cafe saw additional buzz during events like the Hot Chocolate Festival, where its creative offerings captured local interest and long lines.
However, the high cost of doing business on Robson Street is daunting, especially given the current abysmal economic climate for small food ventures in the city.
You can imagine how many cups of coffee and croissants you’d have to sell to just breakeven on rent.
According to Restaurant Canada, in January 2024, 62% of restaurant companies were operating at a loss or just breaking even, which marked a 10% increase from the summer of 2023.
62%…crazy.
Unfortunately, that may be the reality for Little Cafe, as we discovered that it was listed for sale today for $369,000.
The listing describes Little Cafe as a turnkey business opportunity, with a curated menu and welcoming atmosphere.
Recent renovations, prime location, and the option for full training mean it’s set up for a smooth transition, whether it’s for expansion or franchising.
The new owner can continue with the Little Cafe brand or bring in a new concept.
While it’s uncertain if Little Cafe will be kept alive by a new owner or if something entirely different will take its place, one thing is clear: Vancouver’s food scene continues to bleed and experience rapid turnover.
