Earlier this month, we shared that Meinhardt shut its doors at Pacific Centre after a decade.

Well, we finally know what’s sliding into that prime downtown spot.

Get ready for some seriously premium Japanese eats, because ABURI Market is officially coming to Granville Street!

Yep, the same team behind some of Vancouver’s top Japanese restaurants like Miku and Minami just announced they’re opening their third market location right at 609 Granville.

This is pretty big news for anyone working or commuting downtown.

If you’ve been to their Yaletown or West Vancouver locations, you know the drill: think high-quality grab-and-go sushi bentos, unique Japanese snacks you can’t find elsewhere, those fancy Iwate A5 Wagyu cuts, and other cool imported goodies.

It’s basically an elevated Japanese grocery store meets takeaway lunch spot – what they call a “Washoku” concept.

This new downtown location is gonna be a big one too.

It will be around 3,200 sq.ft, making it their second-largest market.

They’re planning to focus heavily on prepared foods, bentos, and platters – perfect for grabbing something quick and tasty near transit.

But here’s the really interesting part…

They’re launching a brand new Japanese bakery concept inside this location!

Details are still hush-hush, but they mentioned it’s being developed with Yukiko Iikura, the head baker from their sister spot WA-BAGEL.

Looks like we’ll have to wait until Fall 2025 for the grand opening, but it sounds like a seriously slick addition to the downtown food scene.
