Recall Alert: These Enoki Mushrooms Are Being Recalled in BC

If you have a hot pot night planned or just did a grocery run this weekend, you need to check your vegetable crisper immediately.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) officially triggered a recall yesterday, January 12th, that affects a popular produce item.

The product in question is the Mushmoshi brand Enoki Mushrooms.

According to the report, the mushrooms are being pulled from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

This is the tricky part about Listeria.

Unlike spoiled milk or rotten fruit, food contaminated with this bacteria usually doesn’t look or smell bad.

You could look at the package and think it is perfectly fresh, but it can still make you seriously ill.

While there have been no reported illnesses yet, the CFIA is advising everyone to be extremely cautious.

Symptoms of Listeria poisoning can include vomiting, persistent fever, muscle aches, and severe neck stiffness.

It is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

In severe cases, it can be fatal.

The recalled product was distributed by Longsheng (Canada) Agricultural Products Ltd.

So, here is the move.

Go check your fridge right now.

If you have Mushmoshi brand Enoki Mushrooms, do not cook them and do not eat them.

You should throw them out immediately or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund.

If you think you might have eaten them already and are feeling sick, contact your doctor.

The CFIA is currently conducting a food safety investigation, so we will keep you posted if more products get added to this list.

For now, stay safe and double-check those labels.
