A Taiwanese beef noodle chain that once had locations across Metro Vancouver just lost its longest-running spot.
Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle has permanently closed its Aberdeen location in Richmond as of February 23, 2026, after more than 16 years in business.
The closure was announced on the brand’s Instagram account with a message thanking the Richmond community for years of loyalty and support.
The post directed customers to visit their UBC and SFU locations instead.
However, we noticed that the UBC location has recently been sold off, according to a local realtor’s SALE post on Red Note.
Chef Hung launched in Metro Vancouver in 2009 under the management of the Fairchild Group, with the Richmond location serving as its North American flagship.
The chef behind the brand is a three-time champion of the Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival Competition, winning between 2007 and 2010.
At its peak, Chef Hung operated locations in Richmond, West Vancouver, downtown Vancouver, Kerrisdale, UBC, SFU, and Burnaby.
But the closures have been steady.
The downtown Chef Hung on Smithe Street shut down in October 2023, less than two years after opening.
The Kerrisdale location followed shortly after in 2024 when the lease ended.
The West Vancouver location on Marine Drive has also closed.
Now, with Aberdeen gone and the UBC location under different ownership, the brand’s presence in the region has been reduced to a fraction of what it once was.
The Aberdeen closure also adds to a growing wave of changes inside the mall itself.
Hazukido Cafe Plus, the first North American location of the Japanese-French croissant concept, was recently listed for sale.
Meanwhile, Meiten on the second floor quietly shut down in December.
Chef Hung Richmond now joins other food spots that have closed recently in Richmond like Joyful Congee, Bubble Waffle Parker, and Meiten.
