Another coffee shop on Broadway is sadly closing its doors.
Lumiere Cafe has announced that its West Broadway location will be shutting down, with the last day of service set for March 28.
The announcement was made on the cafe’s Instagram page, where the team wrote “This wasn’t an easy decision, but we believe it’s the right step so we can take the time to reset, improve, and come back even better.”
They also made it clear this is not meant to be a permanent goodbye.
“We don’t have an exact timeline yet, but this is not goodbye,” the post reads. “We’re working behind the scenes and hope to welcome you again in a new and stronger way.”
The cafe said they had been sharing the news privately with regulars over the past two weeks before making the public announcement.
This is now the second Lumiere Cafe location to close in recent months.
The Greektown location shut down last month, making the Broadway spot the last one standing until now.
Lumiere Cafe first opened the Broadway location in March 2023, taking over the space formerly occupied by Blenz Cafe.
The cafe built a following for its micro-batch roasted coffee and in-house roasting.
Everything was roasted on site in small batches, which the team said allowed them to bring out each coffee’s unique flavours.
The goal was to offer a premium coffee experience at reasonable prices.
That approach clearly resonated with the neighbourhood.
Comments on the closure post reflect how much the area had embraced it, with one person writing “I worked across the street from y’all and will miss the delicious coffee and treats.”
Another wrote that they loved smelling the freshly roasted beans in the morning.
We’ve been to this location multiple times throughout the years, as they had ample space, outlets to stay a while and do work, and generous cup sizes.
So it is unfortunate to see this news.
Losing both the Greektown and Broadway locations within a month of each other is a tough stretch for any small business.
But the tone of the announcement suggests the team is not ready to walk away from the brand.
For anyone wanting to make a last visit, March 28 is the final day.
