Richmond’s food scene is always evolving, and sometimes that means saying goodbye to spots that haven’t quite found their footing.
One recent change we spotted is the listing for Kazuhan Yakiniku, an all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ restaurant on Alexandra Road.
Despite opening just a year ago, the restaurant is now up for sale, reflecting the challenges many businesses face in this tough economy.
Kazuhan Yakiniku offered an all-you-can-eat experience with three different tiers, each unlocking access to more premium items.
Diners could indulge in a range of meats, from short ribs and AAA sirloin to pork neck and Kazuhan steak.
They also had a solid lineup of seafood, including fried squid, shrimp, and basil butter scallops, along with a variety of appetizers like chicken karaage, ebi tempura, takoyaki, and gyoza.
Despite the extensive menu, Kazuhan struggled to impress, with many online reviews pointing out small portions and cheaper quality meats, leading to an average rating of 3.6 stars on Google.
Most of the poor reviews came from the first few months of their opening, which signifies that they’ve made an effort to improve over time.
According to the signage on the exterior of the shop, Kazuhan Yakiniku is connected to Golden Time, a Chinese restaurant specializing in barbeque and meat skewers just a few doors down.
Now, Kazuhan’s 1,378-square-foot unit is up for sale at $468,000.
The listing offers potential buyers the chance to either continue running the Japanese BBQ concept as a turnkey business or transform the space into something new.
With built-in BBQ table tops, the setup is already there for anyone looking to carry on the grilling tradition.
While Kazuhan’s future remains uncertain, locals are already buzzing about Gyubee, an all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ chain from the East Coast set to open in Richmond later this year.
It’s a reminder that in Richmond’s ever-changing food scene, there’s always something new on the horizon.
