Longtime Richmond Bubble Tea Spot Quietly Closes After 7 Years

Looks like Richmond is saying goodbye to another bubble tea spot.

Tea Monarch, which had been serving the community since 2017 near the Richmond Oval, has officially been marked as permanently closed on their Google business listing.

This news comes after more than half a year of inconsistent operating hours, which frustrated many locals as they often showed up only to find the shop unexpectedly closed.

Tea Monarch was a decent spot for study sessions and work meetups due to its spacious and clean interior.

With high ceilings, minimalistic modern decor, a giant communal wooden table, and even had couches in the back corner, it was an inviting haven for those seeking a quiet spot away from the bustling Richmond area.

Tea Monarch’s menu was simple, featuring cream teas, tea lattes, and flavoured milk teas.

However, it seems the challenges of recent years, combined with fluctuating hours, ultimately led to its downfall.

The bubble tea landscape in Metro Vancouver has been shifting significantly, with even big names like Yifang and Machi Machi choosing to pull out of the BC market.

Changes are afoot across the Richmond Oval area, too.

Copa Cafe is set to be replaced by Deer Garden, and a new shabu spot called Mikann is arriving soon.
