Another longtime Richmond spot that many locals grew up visiting is sadly closing.

Rainbow Cafe is saying goodbye after 30 years of serving up bubble waffles and bubble tea in Parker Place Mall.

Parker Place Mall shared the closure news to Noms Magazine over the weekend.

Run by a sibling duo, Rainbow Cafe was Richmond’s first-ever bubble waffle shop, making it a true OG in the city’s food scene.

If you grew up in Richmond, chances are you’ve had one of their crispy bubble waffles, bbt, or dragon’s beard candy at least once (or, let’s be real, a dozen times).

Their farewell message reads like a love letter to the community: “After 30 years of support and love from our neighbours and customers, Rainbow Cafe will proudly close after February 26, 2025. We are grateful that our egg waffles have become a sweet memory in your lives. We wish everyone good health and happiness.”

Now, it’s time to give them one last visit before they retire on February 26, 2025.

According to the post from Parker Place Mall, this isn’t a total goodbye—even after closing, they’ll still take bubble waffle orders and party bookings.

If you don’t wander into Parker Place Mall, you probably don’t know that the food court is usually PACKED.

It is a commonplace packed daily with families, longtime regulars, and the elderly enjoying their favourite comfort eats or each other’s time.

And sadly after 30 years, Rainbow Cafe is now bowing out.

However, we can all wish the siblings a happy retirement.

Rainbow Cafe now joins other longtime Richmond food spots like Bubble World, Hanppy Tofu House, and Yifang in closing its doors.
