Richmond Chinese Korean Fusion Restaurant Closes After 1.5 Years Of Operation

Looks like Richmond’s food scene is taking another hit, unfortunately.

A Noms Mag community member (@lu_lu_foodies) shared with us a closure announcement from Mama’s Diner, the Chinese Korean fusion restaurant located in the Central at Garden City plaza.

The spot opened its doors just back in January 2024, serving up a comforting mix of dishes like bibimbap, kimchi fried rice, various hot plates, and savoury pancakes.

It was also the sister restaurant of Tanlu Grill, a traditional Chinese barbecue spot in the same plaza.

But sadly, Mama’s Diner’s run has now come to an end.

In a heartfelt Instagram post shared back on April 13th, the Mama’s Diner team announced their closure: “After much thought and with a heavy heart, we want to let you know that April 27th will be our final day of operation.”

They expressed deep gratitude to their customers, saying, “This journey has been nothing short of incredible, and we’re so grateful for every one of you who walked through our doors… Your love and encouragement have meant the world.”

This closure adds Mama’s Diner to the growing list of recent Richmond departures, including the relocating Pomona Coffee, the shuttered Potato Corner in Aberdeen Centre, Pho 37’s original Union Square location, and Song Tea.

It highlights the challenging market for restaurants for the past year.

Sad to see them go? Did you get a chance to try their fusion dishes? Let us know your thoughts!
