Richmond Chinese Restaurant Shut Down By Health Officials And Gets Lease Terminated

Looks like another Richmond restaurant has been shut down by health authorities, and this one’s not coming back.

We spotted a closure notice plastered on the front door of Mr. Fu’s Chinese Restaurant, located on the ground floor of the Richmond Public Market.

The Fuzhou-style spot first opened in 2023, offering regional Chinese dishes and homestyle favourites.

But now, it’s been closed for over a year – despite a handwritten sign on the door claiming it’s just a “temporary closure for renovations.”

Turns out, that’s FAR from the full story.

According to a closure order issued by Vancouver Coastal Health on April 2, 2024, Mr. Fu’s was shut down due to multiple serious infractions.

Some including a sewage leak, improperly stored food, and unsanitary conditions.

Yikes.

The document lists several violations of BC’s Food Premises Regulations, including failure to: operate with a valid health permit, keep the premises in good repair, ensure food safety and cleanliness, and sanitize food contact surfaces and equipment.

The inspector also noted that all contaminated food affected by the sewage leak needed to be discarded and the premises thoroughly deep cleaned – from the walls and ceiling down to every utensil.

But that’s not all.

Taped beside the health order is a legal notice from the property landlord, Four Seasons Farm Holdings Ltd., dated April 9, 2025.

The Demand for Possession states that the lease has been terminated and that the tenant must immediately vacate the premises.

The notice also names the individual guarantors and outlines the full termination of the lease agreement, which had only been in effect since August 2023.

So while the signage might suggest a return, Mr. Fu’s isn’t just closed – they’ve been kicked out.

Between the unresolved health infractions and the lease termination, it’s safe to say the restaurant won’t be back.

A For Lease sign has now been put up for the unit.

However, that unit hasn’t been very successful, with several spots turning over the last couple of years.

Mr. Fu’s Chinese Restaurant now joins other closed Richmond food spots like Steveston 50’s Burger, Shanghai Morning, and Suhang Restaurant.
