One of Richmond’s newer hot pot restaurants has landed itself in some hot water.
We spotted a closure notice that has been issued to Beyond Hot Pot, located on Alexandra Road, by Vancouver Coastal Health.
The closure order, dated June 25, 2025, states that the business was operating without a valid permit, a violation under Section 8(1)(a) of the Food Premises Regulation B.C. Reg. 210/99.
The permit in question is critical, as it confirms that a food establishment has met public health and safety requirements, essential for preventing the risk of foodborne illness.
According to the notice, Beyond Hot Pot must pay the required permit fee, a $100 administrative fee, and receive formal approval to reopen.
Until then, they’re not authorized to serve the public.
And they haven’t opened yet as of July 24th.
Beyond Hot Pot opened its doors in October 2024, offering a more refined take on Chao Shan–style/Hong Kong-style hot pot.
Unlike the newer, self-serve malatang-style hot pot joints, Beyond stood out for its emphasis on hand-sliced fresh beef, carefully prepped to pair with their house-made shacha soup base.
This wasn’t a quick-serve concept like the others, but it was meant to offer a more traditional, ingredient-focused experience.
But that experience is now on pause until the restaurant gets back in compliance.
The odd part is that from our research, the hot pot restaurant has been temporarily closed for several months due to an air conditioning system and interior renovations.
Their last Instagram and Red Note post was back in March.
Regardless, the public closure notice serves as a reminder that permits aren’t just paperwork.
They exist to keep diners safe and ensure that food establishments are operating with the proper oversight.
