Another restaurant in Richmond’s Aberdeen Centre has gone dark.

Meiten Japanese Katsu & Bar, the Japanese spot known for its all-you-can-eat lunch sets and katsu dishes, has quietly permanently closed.

Several members of local Chinese Facebook groups first noticed the closure, reporting that the restaurant appeared to have shut down just before the new year.

The restaurant’s Google listing also has it tagged as permanently closed.

A “Sorry We’re Closed” sign sits on the front door, and peering through the glass, you can see the bar area still has Sapporo taps, sake bottles, and glassware sitting untouched.

Christmas decorations are still visible inside.

The restaurant opened around 2023, taking over a space on the second floor of the Richmond mall.

It offered all-you-can-eat Japanese lunch and dinner for $39.95, along with a la carte katsu, sushi, sashimi, tempura, and udon.

Locals may remember this unit as Guu when the mall first opened and has since changed several times.

Reviews on the spot were mixed.

Some praised the quality of the sashimi and katsu, while others flagged slow service and a mandatory 15% gratuity.

No official announcement has been made about why the restaurant closed, and it looks like the unit has yet to make any movements.

Just earlier this month, the Chef Hung in Aberdeen also announced its closure after 16 years of operation.

Meiten now joins a growing list of Richmond food spots that have recently shut down including Joyful Congee, Bubble Waffe Cafe, and Win Win Chick-N
