Richmond Public Market’s Hong Kong Cafeteria Returns With Fresh Look and Same Classics

It looks like one of Richmond Public Market’s longtime stalls just got a fresh new look.

If you’ve wandered through the busy food court, you’ve probably spotted Hong Kong Cafeteria tucked in the right corner by the doors.

For more than a decade, its bold yellow sign and faded food photos have been a familiar sight for anyone grabbing a quick and affordable Hong Kong style breakfast.

Back in July, the stall temporarily closed its shutters for a much-needed renovation after operating since sometime in the early 2000s.

Now it has reopened with a brighter facelift, refreshed signage, and an updated counter.

While the facelift gives it new energy, the menu stays true to what locals expect.

You’ll still find the familiar cha chaan teng classics like baked rice dishes, macaroni soup, fried noodles, and a lineup of sandwiches such as ham and egg or pork chop.

They also serve all-day breakfast sets with combinations of toast, luncheon meat, eggs, and macaroni, plus a long list of Hong Kong style drinks like milk tea, lemon tea, and Ovaltine.

Prices remain in line with other Hong Kong-style stalls, making it a reliable option for those looking for a filling meal without breaking the bank.

We ordered the satay beef breakfast set, which came with a hash brown and eggs cooked to your preference.

While taste-wise we’d still rank nearby stalls like Chadon or One Café a notch above, Hong Kong Cafeteria’s advantage is its shorter line.

It’s nice to see a stall with so much history still carrying on, especially in a food court that remains just as lively and chaotic as ever.
