End of an Era: Longtime Richmond Taiwanese Bubble Tea Restaurant Closes After 15 Years

Another longtime Richmond food spot has quietly closed its doors.

As of August 1, Pearl Castle’s CF Richmond Centre location is now permanently shut down.

The closure was confirmed the next day through an official Instagram post from the brand, where they thanked customers and cited lease expiry as the reason for the closure.

The message read, “It’s a little bittersweet to say goodbye,” and encouraged fans to visit their other locations at Continental Shopping Centre and Club Kitchen.

For many Richmond locals, this Pearl Castle location was more than just another bubble tea shop.

Opened back in 2009, it became a go-to destination for decently priced Taiwanese comfort food, boba drinks, and after-movie snacks.

It was the spot long before the wave of modern bubble tea chains and hot pot spots flooded the scene.

The brand itself has been around since 1996 and holds a nostalgic place in the hearts of many who grew up eating popcorn chicken and sipping on slushes here.

For those still craving Pearl Castle’s signature offerings, the Continental Shopping Centre location remains open and continues to serve all the fan favourites.

This marks yet another closure in Richmond’s evolving food landscape.

Pearl Castle now joins the ranks of recently departed spots like Cherry’s Tofu House, 50’s Burger in Steveston, and Shanghai Morning at Aberdeen.
