It turns out Cherry’s Food House didn’t close after all, like they announced.
Back in September, we reported that the popular Korean Chinese fusion spot on Alexandra Road was shutting down after seven years.
But shortly after their “final day,” something interesting popped up on Chinese social media: Cherry’s Food House had quietly reopened with an entirely new concept.
When we stopped by in person (anonymously as usual), we saw the transformation for ourselves.
While much of the interior remains the same, the restaurant has now turned into a Sichuan-style eatery, serving bold, spicy dishes in a more casual, self-serve setup.
It’s more like a cafeteria now.
Customers now place orders through a self-order kiosk and pick up their meals in takeout containers back to their seats once they’re ready.
The menu features a lineup of classic Sichuan comfort dishes like Sour Pickled Fish, Mapo Tofu, and Twice Cooked Pork, with nothing priced above $14.99.
We tried a couple of dishes, including the Cold Chicken in Chili Sauce and the Clear Noodles in Chili Oil.
Both are packed with decent heat but still manageable, even for those with lower spice tolerance.
According to their late September 29 announcement, it’s still the same ownership team behind the new concept.
Their Instagram caption summed it up best: “Same team, new story.”
Cherry’s shift to authentic Sichuan cuisine is part of a growing wave of change along Richmond’s Alexandra Road, where several spots like Grill Party, Chengdu Spicy Restaurant, and Kumo Sukiyaki have recently shuttered.
