Richmond’s First Tanghulu Specialty Shop Opens

It’s official! Richmond’s long-awaited tanghulu spot is now open.

Momo Tanghulu, known for introducing the city to Beijing-style candied fruit skewers, has officially opened its first storefront along Buswell and Cook Street, just steps from Richmond Centre.

After starting as a small pop-up inside Boom Chicken back in 2024 and later operating through WeChat orders, the brand has finally returned with a full retail experience.

The new shop features a bright, minimalist interior accented by playful cartoon decor that matches its signature logo.

At the counter, a glass display case showcases a colorful lineup of freshly made tanghulu skewers.

Staff were busy preparing new batches during our visit, and the glossy candied fruits looked as tempting as ever.

Their menu includes both fruit-based and traditional hawthorn options, ranging from strawberry, orange, and blueberry to hawthorn with sesame or sticky rice.

They also serve smoothies and combo sets that pair tanghulu with blended drinks.

We got three of their popular picks: the strawberry with sticky rice, the strawberry with blueberry, and the orange.

Each skewer delivered that signature crisp sugar coating followed by a burst of juicy sweetness.

Unfortunately, the hawthorn series was sold out at the time, but the staff said they’re constantly restocking throughout the day.

For those unfamiliar, tanghulu is a classic Northern Chinese street snack that has surged in popularity across Metro Vancouver, thanks to its glossy, Instagram-ready presentation and satisfying crunch.

Momo Tanghulu’s new storefront marks the brand’s full-circle comeback and adds another fun dessert option to Richmond’s growing food scene.

Momo Tanghulu now joins other recently opened food spots in Richmond like Don Noodle, Sushi Lovers, and Prunus.
