Salmonella Scare: Another Cucumber Recall For Vancouver Shoppers to be on High Alert!

Another food recall involving cucumbers has just hit the shelves, and it might have something to do with a sneaky little troublemaker: salmonella.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a recall for SunFed brand field and slicer cucumbers sold between October 12 and November 29, 2024.

Now, before you panic, the good news is: there have been no reported illnesses linked to these cucumbers in Canada—yet.

The cucumbers might have been sold loose or in bulk, and they could be labeled as “Produce of Mexico,” so it’s a good idea to check your recent grocery haul.

These potentially contaminated cucumbers may have traveled across several provinces, including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

So, what should you do?

If you’ve recently bought any of these cucumbers, it’s essential to not consume, serve, or distribute them.

Instead, toss them out or return them to the store for a full refund.

If you’re uncertain whether your cucumbers are on the list, reach out to your retailer to double-check.

The recall stems from a broader investigation after similar concerns were raised in another country.

The CFIA is actively investigating the situation, and while there have been no reported illnesses in Canada from these products, food contaminated with salmonella can be a silent menace.

Remember, it might look fresh and smell fine, but it can still make you sick!

Salmonella can particularly affect young kids, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

For healthy folks, you may face unpleasant symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, and abdominal cramps—not the kind of feelings you want to associate with your favourite cucumber dip!

To sum it up: if you’ve got SunFed cucumbers hanging around your kitchen, it’s time to exercise caution.
