Surprise, surprise – another hot pot restaurant is coming to Richmond.
A Noms Mag community member (@tasteofvancouver) spotted signage for a new name entering the hot pot battlefield: Drama Hot Pot.
The new spot is set to open inside Central at Garden City plaza, taking over the unit formerly home to Mama’s Diner, which shut down back in April.
And from the looks of the signage – which showcases bowls filled with a fiery mix of meat, veggies, and noodles, both dry and broth-based – it’s safe to assume this one’s leaning into the increasingly popular mala-style format.
Think: customizable bowls with your choice of ingredients, your pick of broths (or dry spices), and a whole lot of heat.

Think of it as a familiar DIY hot pot setup that’s already made popular by spots like Big Way, Datang, and Piping Hot.
The interior design is being handled by Lin Han, the creative mind behind the aesthetics of Big Way, Myth Dessert & Patisserie, Tea Origin, and the soon-to-open UTown Hot Pot.
So expect something stylish – maybe with bold colours and modern textures.
Still, the real drama might be whether or not Drama Hot Pot can hold its own in Richmond’s ultra-saturated hot pot scene.
Hopefully, they have something that differentiates them from the other malatang spots.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see when the doors open.
Drama Hot Pot now joins a growing list of upcoming food spots in Richmond including Max’s To Go, Fruit Box, and Shanghai Winning Baozi.
