Another chapter has turned for a Richmond storefront that once made headlines for a shocking accident.
Back in early 2023, a Tesla slammed into the corner Chung Chun Korean Rice Hot Dog shop on No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway.
The crash left a staff member seriously injured and the car fully lodged into the eatery.
For many locals, it was assumed that after repairs, the hot dog spot would eventually reopen.
But that never happened.
After sitting closed for over a year and briefly listed for lease in August, it now looks like something completely new is taking over.
Earlier this week, we spotted signage for Shawarma 2 Go Grill appearing on the windows.
The family-run Mediterranean eatery first opened at Seafair Shopping Centre earlier this year and has gained great ratings for its made-to-order falafels, aromatic shawarma, and creamy house-made dips like hummus and tzatziki.
With more than 20 years of experience behind them, the owners are passionate about serving shawarma the traditional way, hand-cut and sliced right in front of customers.
The upcoming Westminster Highway location will be their second in Richmond, but in a more central area.
Fans can expect a menu that blends authentic Mediterranean flavours with a bit of playful fusion.
There will be tombik, a Turkish-style puffy pita bun packed with shawarma, fries, and sauces, alongside staples like chicken shawarma wraps, lamb shank with rice and pita, and their signature falafels.
No official opening date has been announced yet, but once the doors open, this spot will mark a fresh start for a unit once associated with unfortunate news.
Shawarma 2 Go Grill now joins other upcoming Richmond food spots like Lao Cai, Baskin Robbins, and The Food Court.
