Another Vancouver institution is saying goodbye.

Solly’s Bagels has announced that it will be permanently closing its original West Broadway location after 30 years of serving up traditional Jewish baked goods to the Kitsilano community.

In an Instagram post shared earlier this week, the team wrote:

“Due to the rising costs of rent and taxes in the Kitsilano neighborhood, we will be closing our 2873 West Broadway location permanently June 22nd at end of day. Come in and get your baked goods before then. Thank you Kitsilano for 30 Wonderful Years. Solly’s.”

The timing of the closure also aligns with Greek Day on Broadway, meaning the farewell will come during one of the neighbourhood’s busiest and most nostalgic weekends of the year.

If you’ve ever stepped into Solly’s Broadway shop, you know it’s more than just a bakery.

It’s a slice of Jewish deli tradition tucked into a cozy space where locals have grabbed eggels, lox sandwiches, cinnamon buns, and coffee for decades.

Small and unassuming, the shop has long been cherished for its warm, bohemian charm.

Solly’s is known for their “Brooklyn-style” bagels (no added egg, oil, or honey), which are boiled and baked on a stone hearth. Every item is baked fresh daily using traditional techniques and no shortcuts.

From their sticky cinnamon buns to rich babka and pastrami-loaded reubens, this place was the real deal.

Beyond the baked goods, Solly’s deli menu has always been stacked with comforting Jewish fare: matzo ball soup, hot corned beef, and their famous all-day breakfast sandwiches.

This isn’t a full goodbye.

Solly’s other two locations, in East Vancouver and Main Street, will remain open, so fans can still get their fix.

But for those who’ve called the Broadway shop their go-to for years, this one will sting.

The Kitsilano store now joins the list of longtime Vancouver food spots that have shut their doors recently, including Zefferelli’s, Pizzeria Farina, and McKim Wonton Mein Saga.

If you’re in the area before June 22, it’s worth swinging by for one final cinnamon bun and to say thanks for the memories.
