Commercial Drive is about to get a little more Bangkok.
A coming soon banner has gone up for Khaosan Thai Street Food, a new restaurant taking over the former Rinconcito Salvadoreno unit on The Drive.
There is not a lot of information out there yet.

No social media profiles, no website, and no official opening date have surfaced.
But the name alone tells us a lot about what to expect.
Khaosan is named after Khao San Road, the legendary backpacker strip in Bangkok that has become synonymous with Thai street food culture.
If you have ever wandered through that chaotic stretch of neon signs, sizzling woks, and plastic stools, you know the vibe.
It is loud, it is delicious, and it is the kind of place where you eat pad thai at 2 AM without question.
Based on that inspiration, we are likely looking at a menu filled with Thai street food staples.

Think pad thai, grilled satay skewers, tom yum soup, and mango sticky rice.
These are the dishes that define Thai street food, and they will add another option to The Drive’s already solid Thai lineup alongside spots like Kin Kao, SUD SOI, and Thai Basil.
We are probably not going to see any fried insects on the menu though.
That particular Khao San Road tradition will likely stay in Bangkok.
The location itself is solid for this kind of concept.
Commercial Drive has always been a hub for international eats, and Thai food fits right into that mix.
The neighbourhood already has a loyal following for its diverse food scene, from Italian cafes to Vietnamese pho to Latin American spots.
As for when the doors will actually open, that remains a mystery.
There is no official announcement yet, but we will keep you posted as soon as we hear more.
Khaosan Thai Street Food now joins a wave of new food spots coming to Vancouver like The Waffle Co., Eggstatic, and VanSuya.
