If you love spicy food, then you’ll be thrilled by this news!
We recently spotted signs for Toronto’s popular Sichuan restaurant, Chengdu Street Food, at the former Daowei Haige location in Richmond.
Known for its authentic and bold flavours, Chengdu Street Food has already won hearts at its highly-rated Toronto Chinatown location, where it boasts an impressive 4.9-star rating.
This would be their first location in BC.
For the uninitiated, Chengdu—aside from being known for pandas—is famed for its numbing and spicy cuisine (thanks to a good handful of peppercorn and chili peppers).
Chengdu Street Food delivers this signature heat with a menu featuring a variety of dishes from the region that range from fiery to mild.
Highlights include Stir Fried Beef Aorta with Gassho Melon, Sichuan Boiled Beef with Bean Sprout in Hot Chili Oil, and for the adventurous, Stir Fried Bone-In Rabbit with Sichuan Peppercorn and Chili.
For those who prefer to dial down the spice, there are non-spicy options available too.
The Toronto location’s unique decor gives a glimpse of what might come to Richmond.
Picture exposed brick walls featuring Chinese calligraphy, rustic wooden tables, and an ambiance that transports diners straight to Chengdu’s lively streets.
Although details about the Richmond location are still under wraps, after spotting our social media post about the new arrival, many have shared their anticipation for this exciting addition to Richmond’s food scene.
While there’s no confirmed opening date yet, this Chengdu Street Food will be joining other anticipated spots like coming to Richmond like Bell Wether.
