A nostalgic American treat has finally landed in Vancouver, and itโ€™s being scooped up with heart, hustle, and a whole lot of family love!

Lucyโ€™s Frozen Custard is a new small-batch frozen dessert brand quietly popping up in East Vancouver on weekends only for now.

The business is run by the local family of Shannon and Brian, along with their 8-year-old daughter, Lucy, who the shop is named after due to her bold ideas and generous spirit, which sparked the entire journey.

If youโ€™ve never had frozen custard before, you’re not alone.

This dessert is a staple in the Midwest United States, but until now, has been virtually unheard of in Vancouver.

Unlike regular ice cream, frozen custard has more egg yolk and much less air churned in, giving it a denser, silkier, ultra-creamy texture.

To get it just right, Shannon and Brian even flew to Missouri to learn the technique and invested in a special custard-making machine.

Since launching their first weekend pop-up in June, Lucyโ€™s has offered rotating flavours like lemon meringue, coffee chocolate crackle, strawberry sorbetto, and cotton candy.

You can enjoy it in a cup or cone, or go all in with a mixie – a custard swirl blended with house-made cookies or chocolate for the ultimate treat.

Two charming details that caught our attention?

Lucyโ€™s is a completely tip-free business.

So if youโ€™re someone who dreads that awkward tip screen moment, this might be your new go-to.

And a lot of the signage and other items in the store are actually 3D printed by Brian, who is also an engineer.

You can see him proudly show off all the items he’s printed for the shop on their Instagram profile.

Their pop-ups are still running on weekends only, but the interest is growing.
