Another beloved food spot is sadly closing its doors.
A Noms Mag community member (@likebyregina) shared a post with us that Liberte Cafe & Restaurant took to Instagram on January 8th to announce that they will be sadly closing down in February.
Located in an apartment complex in the Joyce-Collingwood area, Liberte Cafe opened back in 2021 and has been a cozy haven for locals, offering everything from sweet treats and coffee to comforting Filipino mains.
Their smoked salmon benedict, ube cream buns, ube latte, and beef ribs silog have earned them much praise in the community.
According to the cafe’s announcement, the closure comes after their landlord imposed an hefty rent increase, making it impossible for them to renew their lease.
Sadly, this story has become all too familiar in recent years, with rent hikes of 30% to even 200% forcing many small businesses to close.
However, the Liberte Cafe team did share a glimmer of hope in their announcement!
They plan to move to a new location.
Details about where and when haven’t been announced yet, but fans can take comfort knowing this isn’t the end for Liberte.
For now, you have until the end of January to visit this neighbourhood gem one last time and enjoy their comforting Filipino fusion offerings before they say goodbye to Joyce-Collingwood.
