Affordable Vancouver Fish & Chips Spot Shuts Down After 28 Years Of Operation

We’ve got some sad news for fans of crispy fish and chips and budget-friendly eats.

After nearly three decades of serving up some of Vancouver’s best thin-battered fish and chips, The Sea House Fish and Chips is officially shutting down.

In a heartfelt Facebook post shared on May 22nd, the longtime local spot announced it will be closing its doors for good on Monday, May 26th at 9 PM.

Affectionately known by regulars as “the two grandmothers,” the owners have been the heart and soul of the operation since they opened in 1997.

For 28 years, they’ve proudly dished out fish, prawns, and calamari at some unbelievable prices.

Seriously, where else in the city could you get a full fish and chips lunch with a drink for under $10?

None in the last couple year’s poor economy.

But Sea House had these prices for a long long time.

And for that reason, Sea House was well deserved to be called a hidden gem.

A daily lunch special of one piece of fish, fries, and a pop for $9.50, or halibut for $15.50, made this spot a gem for both your belly and your wallet.

It wasn’t just the deals, though.

It was the cozy, old-school atmosphere, the no-frills menu, and the kind Asian grandmothers behind the counter who handed over that golden, greasy goodness.

And now, after nearly three decades of frying up happiness, the owners are heading into a well-deserved retirement.

They’re not the only ones closing this chapter either.

The Sea House joins a growing list of long-time spots: Suhang Restaurant, Ming Fong Fast Food, Rainbow Cafe, that have recently shut down as their owners step away after years of service.
