With the current economic climate pushing more Canadians to cut back on dining out, it’s no surprise that many food businesses are starting to feel the crunch.
But some longtime spots are choosing to make a move as well.
That seems to be the case for longtime favourite—Snackshot— who we’ve spotted putting their original Marpole location up for sale.
The dessert shop shared with Noms Magazine that this isn’t goodbye to the brand but a relocation as a new Richmond outpost is in the works.
Snackshot has been serving Hong Kong-style desserts and snacks since 2017, becoming a go-to spot for those craving a taste of nostalgic HK street food.
From classic offerings like curry fish balls, siu mai, and rice rolls with peanut butter and soy sauce, each dish at Snackshot brought a piece of Hong Kong to Vancouver.
These dishes have always drawn in those who wanted a reminder of bustling street stalls and late-night snack joints in Hong Kong.
One of the highlights for many visitors has been the mahjong tile desserts that made rounds on Instagram.
These IG-able treats were crafted from coconut and red bean gelatin, with rice paper money adding a playful touch, and they became one of the shop’s most shared items.
The Marpole location itself has an old-school Hong Kong vibe, with an iconic mural wall and 80s Cantonese music creating a casual, nostalgic ambiance.
Snackshot’s Marpole unit is now listed for sale for $158,000.
Snackshot’s Kingsway location remains open.
The dessert shop shared with Noms Magazine that they’ll be opening up in Richmond’s Continental Shopping Centre, taking over the previous K2 Hair Salon.
They state that it is slated to open in Februrary 2025.
While it’s sad to see the original shop potentially moving on, there are still more Hong Kong desserts to come!
