Something big is landing in Vancouver.
It is the kind of pizza you have to see once in your life just to believe it exists.
And by big, we mean the brand behind the world’s biggest deliverable pizza.
Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria is officially making its way into the city, and the first BC location is opening soon along Arbutus.

We spotted their signage a while back, but the space looks nearly ready and the team seems to be gearing up for launch.
If the name sounds familiar, it is probably because the brand holds the Guinness World Record for the largest deliverable pizza on the planet.
Their Giant Sicilian measures a wild 54 inches by 54 inches, which equals two hundred slices and feeds fifty to seventy people.
It is the kind of thing you order when you want instant legend status at a party.

Big Mama’s and Papa’s got its start in Los Angeles back in 1992 when brothers Aro and Allen Agakhanyan opened their first pizzeria while still in high school.
Their idea was to build a real neighbourhood pizza spot with a cool Southern California feel while also making pizzas big enough to satisfy the massive appetites of their customers.
Their first specialty was a 28 inch pizza.
Then came the Big Papa, which jumped to 36 inches and sixty slices.
But even that was not enough, leading them to create the Giant Sicilian that still holds the world record today.
The Agakhanyan brothers expanded the menu over the years with Southern California twists like the Egg Gondola Pizza, Big Mama’s Slice, pastas, salads, and appetizers.
The Big Mama’s Slice is especially famous because one slice is said to be the size of four regular slices.
Today, the brand has seventeen locations across Los Angeles County and four Canadian franchise locations, with the Arbutus shop becoming the first in British Columbia.
It is slated to open this December.
Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria joins the growing list of upcoming Vancouver food spots like 93 Coffee Harbour Centre, Tahini’s, and Alberello.
